LOS ANGELES: Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan, a documentary on the “grandfather of stop-motion animation,” has been sold by BoPaul Media Worldwide (BMW) to broadcasters in the U.S., Europe and the Asia Pacific.
Set to make its official MIPTV sales debut, Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan is headed to Sony Movie Channel in the U.S., BBC in the U.K., Rimini Editions in France and Umbrella Entertainment in Australia/New Zealand. Produced by Arrow Films, the 90-minute production features clips and commentary from several acclaimed filmmakers, including Steven Spielberg and James Cameron. Five hours of behind-the-scenes bonus footage will also be offered to international buyers at next week’s event.
In the documentary, Spielberg said of Harryhausen: “He is the father of all we do today in science fiction, fantasy and adventure.” Cameron added: “When I was a kid, I’d see a Harryhausen film and for the next five weeks I would draw my own comic books and do my own version of Ray’s work. I did this for a long time (with all of his films).”
Harryhausen is best known for creating such films as The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, It Came from Beneath the Sea and The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, to name a few.
